Next Generation Science - Chemistry
These pages layout a high school chemistry class designed to be consistent with the intentions of the next generation science standards. All of the important chemistry concepts are covered however, the sequence they are covered in and the focus of each unit differ from a traditional chemistry class. The aspiration of the NGS standards and this class are to gain a deeper level of thought and understanding about chemistry.
The overall goal remains unchanged. This is a high school chemistry class designed to provide a background in chemistry essential for participating in society. At the end of this course a student will also be prepared for an entry level college chemistry class or AP Chemistry class should they choose to take one in the future.
A reference text is used although this has also been sectioned and reworked for each unit to allow for the appropriate background knowledge. The reference text is: openStax Atoms First
note that there are several chemistry textbooks available from openStax, we are using the one entitled 'Chemistry: Atoms First - second edition'
The class syllabus can be found here: 2019-2020 Syllabus
NOTE: this is a working plan and I frequently change and supplement. If you are a student looking ahead please check with me about things I might change in the future.
